Indonesia and the European Union have successfully concluded the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) after a decade of negotiations. This agreement will grant Indonesian products broader access to the European market. During a joint press conference in Brussels, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen celebrated this significant milestone. Both leaders highlighted the mutual benefits of this free trade agreement and the strategic importance of cooperation. President von der Leyen acknowledged Indonesia’s crucial role in global supply chains, especially in supporting the EU’s initiatives for clean energy and digital transitions. CEPA is expected to open up new opportunities for Indonesian products in sectors like agriculture, automotive, services, and critical raw materials. With a combined market of 730 million people, the implementation of CEPA is anticipated to strengthen trade relations between Indonesia and the EU. President Prabowo expressed hope for the official signing of the agreement to take place in Brussels as a symbol of the long-term commitment between the two partners.
