Prabowo Affirms Bandung Spirit at BRICS Summit

President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia highlighted the significance of the “Bandung Spirit” at the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Indonesia’s commitment to global peace and adherence to international law were emphasized by President Prabowo during the forum. Rejecting war and double standards in international affairs, he urged for multilateralism and respect for international law.

The Bandung Spirit, rooted in solidarity among developing nations established in the 1955 Asian-African Conference in Bandung, Indonesia, was stressed by President Prabowo to his BRICS counterparts. Referencing the importance of the Bandung Spirit, particularly concerning the Palestinian issue, he called for its continued relevance within the BRICS forum.

Brazil, as the summit’s host country, warmly welcomed Indonesia’s first full membership participation. Even before President Prabowo mentioned the Bandung Spirit, Brazil had invoked the Bandung principles in its opening statement. Expressing hope for BRICS to revive the Bandung legacy in advancing the interests of developing nations, Brazil embraced the reference to Bandung during the summit.
