Pensiunan Jenderal TNI Wismonyo Arismunandar

Pak Wismoyo was a commander who had a significant influence on me. His teachings personally impacted me, especially his emphasis on always thinking good, doing good, and speaking well. He believed that one should not harbor negative thoughts towards others, a lesson that has stayed with me. I find his values to be valuable and in line with both Indonesian and TNI culture.

He believed that brave men should also be happy, and that a leader should uplift his men through activities like singing and sports. I first met Pak Wismoyo Arismunandar when I joined KOPASSANDHA, where he served as the Deputy Assistant for Security with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Over time, as he became our Commander in KOPASSANDHA Group 1, I got to know him better and appreciated his teachings even more.

Pak Wismoyo always stressed the importance of creating a happy atmosphere among his men, and he often participated in activities like singing and dancing with them. He believed in unity between the leader and his men, and I try to emulate this by creating a positive environment whenever possible.

He was also forgiving and believed in giving second chances. His motto, “discipline is my breath, loyalty is my soul, honor is everything,” still resonates with me. He also taught us the importance of not speaking ill of others and set a good example by participating in physical activities despite his injuries.

Pak Wismoyo was skilled in marksmanship and encouraged me to excel in shooting as well. I trained hard and eventually became one of the best shooters in KOPASSUS and KOSTRAD. He often included me in shooting competitions during his tenure as the head of KOSTRAD and the Army.

One particular memory that stands out is when he reminded me to be close to God before my first operation as a Company Commander. He stressed the importance of spiritual preparedness as we faced the risks of injury or death.

Overall, Pak Wismoyo’s teachings and actions left a lasting impact on me, shaping my leadership style and values.
